Safe Digging Practices
Before digging, it is important to establish the location and depth of any underground utilities.
You can do this through the Dial Before You Dig website at www.1100.com.au.
Here, you can submit a site plan of what you are proposing online.
You should do this at least a couple of business days prior to starting your digging.
This will allow the utilities time to reply with any pertinent information. In most cases, this is a free service.
The indications on these utilities plans can be approximate. It is always best to
dig a hole manually in the vicinity of underground assets until you locate them.
Alternatively, cable and pipe locating services can be engaged. Individual infrastructure owners can put you in touch with their accredited locators.
